For the first time in history, more people are searching the Internet for health information than asking doctors. Digital health consumers, known as e-patients, are now empowered, equipped, engaged, educated and connected to others electronically.

We are proud to announce that Mark Harmel will be capturing images at our conference this year. Mark has years of experience with medical photography as well as other forms of visual storytelling. Read his bio to hear all about his experience with photojournalism, medical photography and other interests … including social media and mobile health solutions.

Mark will be attending the conference not only to photograph, but to expand his capabilities into social media and mobile health solutions. The insights he documents at conferences are used to design programs for organizations and clinical trials in the diabetes field.

To date Mark has developed two social media programs for diabetes groups. A patient focused approach for Taking Control of Your Diabetes, and a professional member connection program for the American Diabetes Association. Social media and mobile health are now parts of two clinical trial programs he is developing with researchers at the University of Southern California.

Mark can be found through his blog http://www.markharmel.com/blog and on twitter @MarkHarmel.

Welcome Mark!

We’re guessing it’s more accessible than traditional in-person therapy, just given the fact that your cell phone is available whenever you are.

Come hear Dr. Margaret Morris, clinical psychologist and senior researcher at Intel, discuss her work in Mobile Therapy. She’ll explain how Cognitive Behavioral Therapy was translated into mobile interactions and share case studies to illustrate how people used mood mapping and mobile therapies to improve emotional self-awareness and coping in everyday life.

Sounds like something we could all use a little of now and then!

Only 4 weeks away and we’re getting excited now – we can’t wait to meet (or see again) all our friends in the e-Patient Connections Community.

The agenda is getting locked down and our day lineup includes some heavy hitters, like:

Victor Stretcher, PhD, HealthMedia/UMSPH, who will teach us about the power of storytelling in behavior change

e-Patient Dave, who will tell us his own story, themed with the title of his book Laugh, Sing, and Eat Like a Pig

Susannah Fox of Pew Internet will share research insights on those with chronic disease and help us answer the question: What would happen if mobile access allowed everyone to participate in gathering, sharing, and creating health information?

Bill Tancer, of Hitwise, and author of the book Click: What Millions of People are Doing Online and Why it Matters, will share insights into what search tells us about health.

Brooke McMillan of LIVESTRONG will talk about managing a facebook community of over 950,000 people

Sona Mehring of Caringbridge will deliver a casestudy about how to connect friends and family when health matters most

And all of that, including a couple super-hot demos, will happen before lunch.

Come be inspired, learn to tell a good story, and take home some stuff you can use. You won’t regret it!
