Dave deBronkart
e-Patient Dave put the word "e-patient" on the map. Surviving a near-fatal brush with Stage IV kidney cancer in 2007, he asked what he'd do with his "free replay in life," and in 2008 the answer came to him: he discovered e-patients.net and realized that the internet-empowered practices described on that site matched his own case perfectly. He became their most prolific blogger, using his now-famous name, and in 2009 was elected Founding Co-Chair of the Society for Participatory Medicine. A high tech marketer, he decided to move his hospital data into Google Health. The mess that resulted, and his blog post about it, landed him in the Boston Globe, Time, US News, policy meetings in Washington, and Wikipedia. In 2010 he went full-time in consulting and speaking, and published his first book, about his cancer story and being an e-patient: Laugh, Sing and Eat Like a Pig: How an empowered patient beat Stage IV cancer (and what healthcare can learn from it). |
